It’s Friday and I’m so in Love with the art and illustration of Krisjana S Williams. She’s one of a handful or artists who I return to time and again when I’m feeling creatively challenged. Her enviable client list includes Fornum & Masons, Penhaligon’s, Liberty, The Shard, Heals and the list goes on. Not to mention her many commissions including The Rio Olympics.
I love the quote from Katie Treggiden of the award winning blog ‘Confessions of a Design Geek’:
“Sometimes you see something so absolutely the opposite of your usual style that it stops you in your tracks and makes you smile. And perhaps even makes you question what you thought you liked. I am a minimalist and a modernist, I like calm; I like grey. I like simplicity; I like the understated; I like quiet clean lines and white space. But then along came Kristjana S Williams.”
About the Work of Krisjana S Williams, Artist & Illustrator
I discovered Williams via the Triumph campaign and was mesmerised by the detail of her work. Her hand crafted, collaged works, aligned with photography are just stunning. Exotic birds, flowers, butterflies, victorian ephemera are placed together like a visual dance. The painstaking attention to detail – well I just can’t get enough of her work. I’ve yet to own a piece of illustration of Krisjana S Williams. However I have recently purchased her children’s book Wonder Garden, (for myself of course;) ) created in collaboration with Jenny Broom at Wide Eyed Editions. The book explores five of planet Earth’s most extraordinary habitats and the creatures that live in them – each brought to life with Williams’s illustration.It sits by by desk to remind me that my only limit is my own imagination.

Icelandic born artist Kristjana S Williams studied graphic design and illustration at taht hot-bed of creativity, Central St Martins in London. Her work spans across fine art prints and pieces (I love her globes), furniture, wallpaper, books and more. Krisjana S Williams’s inspiration lies heavily with “layering nature upon nature and ‘the symmetry in all things living’”, which stems from the artist’s childhood in Iceland.
When growing up the Williams found the landscape there stark and grey. Never seeing trees or colourful butterflies or exotic flowers. So each piece created by the artist is its own universe of botanicals, atmosphere and animals, each born and grown from the things that have inspired her since being a child in Iceland. Although it must be said now she feels the complete opposite about her homeland – as though the colours and landscape are like nowhere else in the world.
